Luma Wire Tech is a specialist manufacturer of ultra-thin and fine wires for high-performance applications, with advanced manufacturing facilities in Kalmar, Sweden, producing wire solutions that are highly suitable for smart and technical textiles.
Company overview – proven record
Offering wires of between 4-300 micron’s that can be customized with a range of electro-plated coatings, Luma Wire Tech AB is an established supplier of technical wiring solutions for applications from smart and technical textiles to space antennas and the lighting industry.

Luma Wire Tech have advanced manufacturing facilities in Sweden where they carry out fine wire drawing and plating. Wires are exported across the globe, references including provision of wires for CERN Particle Accelerators (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) and antenna mesh for the European Space Agency, ESA, are a testament to the quality of the products offered.
Customisation of electrical and mechanical properties
One of the things that makes Luma Wire Tech stand out amongst manufacturers of conductive fibres, is its unique expertise in electrochemical coating and production processes that enables customisation of electrical and mechanical properties. This ability to engineer properties is key to ensuring long-term stability of electrical resistance, thermal stability and fatigue resistance for integrated conductors in finished technical and e-textile products.
Every spool, whether just a few hundred or several thousand meters, is produced under strict quality standards making Luma Wire Tech a leading partner for co-development with industry and R&D institutions. Materials worked with include Tungsten, Molybdenum and Tungsten Rhenium metal wires along with other specialty wires such as Silver, Gold, Copper, Stainless Steel together with a variety of other materials and coatings such as gold, nickel, silver, palladium or platinum.
Material properties enabling advanced functional fabrics
E-textile wearables have faced a number of challenges in winning end-user acceptance. From issues of discomfort from rigid components and long-term skin compatibility to decreasing electrical stability over time as well as failure to match expectations to robustness (flexing and bending) and washability.
Selection and combination of specific materials and coatings can contribute to resolution of these issues, with for example gold- or silver-plated surfaces offering biocompatibility for prolonged skin contact, high conductivity / stable low electrical resistance. As noble metals, gold and silver surfaces are readily able to withstand sweat and sterilization, as well as safe to put in a washing machine.

Combining coating for thermal and sensing functionality
Combining these types of coatings on a wire of Tungsten and Molybdenum results in an exceptionally robust conductor with an extremely high melting point, good thermal stability and high tensile strength that also ensures high fatigue resistance to bending and flexing. Together, these properties are well-suited for applications where, for example, thermal and sensing functionality are integrated within the textile structure to map the thermal burden to heat exposure, but also in medical garments for continual (long-term) monitoring applications.

By supplying high-quality ultra-fine wires, primarily gold-plated molybdenum wire, Luma Wire Tech has become a trusted supplier to manufacturers of communication and observation satellites worldwide. The wire is warp-knitted into highly engineered mesh structures using advanced textile manufacturing techniques that combine weaving and knitting principles.
These lightweight yet robust meshes are used as deployable reflector antennas, with dimensions ranging from approximately 1.5 meters to more than 20 meters in diameter. A large antenna mesh measuring 19 × 17 meters when deployed can be compactly stowed into a volume as small as 1 × 4 meters during launch. Despite their low weight, the structures offer excellent stiffness, dimensional stability, and mechanical reliability in demanding space environments.
